My TeePee for Little K

I saw this super cute tutorial online for this children's TeePee. I couldn't resist. AND of course I had to add to it to make it more complicated. (I am good at that) But here it is! I still want to paint the poles. I am using the same fabric to make bags and basket liners for Little Miss K's toys. Pretty fun, she likes to play hide and seek in there.
Link to the tutorial.... maybe you will be better at following directions. (oh and if you make this, I would recommend starting with 4 yards, instead of 3 and starting with a really small hole for the top center, you can always go bigger but not smaller.)

( I have been blogging a lot all of a sudden, am I overblogging? Nahhhh.....)

You kissed What?

I guess I am more out of touch with the "real world" than I thought. This morning I was watching the 'news' (actually the Today Show, I call it the news to make me fell better about watching TV) Anyhow, I was watching the news and they do the summer series concerts. I was APPALLED at the song that I heard. I guess it has been on the charts for 15 weeks and #1 for 7 of those weeks. I had never heard this song before. (Maybe that is because I listen to Michael Buble so much). It is by Katy Perry and titled "I kissed a girl". Ok, call me old fashion but a girl singing a song called I kissed a girl is crazy. AND it says I kissed a girl and I liked it, it felt so right it felt so wrong. Or something like that. Granted the tune is very catching, in fact I can not get it out of my head now. BUT all the same, holy cow, there were like 8 year old girls in the crowd singing this song. What a horrible influence on society and these young girls. I can only imagine how many girls have decided that it was now OK to 'kiss a girl'. Sorry about the rant, but it is scary that garbage is out there and the wide acceptance of it.
My kids are only ever going to hear and sing church songs (and Michael buble!)
Only teasing but sometimes I wish....

Little K party

I am such a slacker. I made these super cute invited for Little K's Birthday party and never mailed them out. I guess I will be making some calls tomorrow. Just so you all know, it is Saturday at 4:30 at Jungle Park.

To get there:
Going down on Harrison, turn right on 31st Street. Then take your first right and you will see the park up ahead.
Hope to see you all there.

My Baby is One!

Today is Little K's First Birthday! I can't believe that it has been a whole year! It is amazing how time flies by.
Little K's First Day here with us!
My one month old darling
Five months old (just learned to sit as we were moving)

Nine Months and super smiley
TODAY! ONE YEAR OLD - Can you say CHEESE?
We took her to get ice cream for her birthday treat. She was NOT very impressed. In fact she had one bite and wanted nothing to do with it.
Birthdays call for a bubble bath
Happy Birthday Baby!

P.S. I love Michael Buble!

Bruise

Yesterday I was thinking about all the bruises that Little K sustains on her head. Learning to walk is a tough time for the head. Well I was very pleased that they were all in the yellow/green phase and would be gone in a day or two. Her first birthday is Monday and I was going to get her pictures taken.
BUT..... (of course there is a BUT otherwise there would be nothing to blog about)
I went in to her room after her nap yesterday and WHAM! there is a huge goose egg on her forehead, front and center. I have no idea how she got it, but it is there and now I dont know if I should wait until it is gone or take the pictures with her battle scars. It is a good representation of what she looks like at One, but I want to have cute pictures. What do you think? Take my poll and tell me.

Before the bruise...
Right when she got up...

Now, this morning....

Strawberry Oatmeal Bars

At enrichment night, a new friend of mine (Jamie Strong) made these delicious treats. I couldnt get enough of them so I made them myself later that week. SO EASY!

1 package yellow cake mix (always a good way to start a recipe)
2 1/2 cups quick oats
1 cup strawberry jam (best if it is homemade, but store bought will do)
3/4 cups butter or margarine, melted
1/4 milk or evaporated milk
1 Tbsp water

Preheat oven to 375 - grease 9x13
Mix cake, oats, butter and milk
Press 1/2 of mixture in bottom of pan
Mix jam and water and spread over crust in pan
crumble/sprinkle the remaining oat mixture in pan
Bake for 20 mins or until top begins to brown. DO NOT OVER BAKE!
Cool before cutting into bars (but if you cant wait, then dig in - they just wont hold a bar shape)

P.S. Jamie also teaches Piano Lesson (so if you or your children are interested....)

PizzaRoni

The other day, I went to a potluck and made "pizzaroni" or "Pizza Macaroni". It turned out really good and a few people asked for the recipe. Well I tried to tell it and forgot a couple of things. So here is the real recipe (and the modifications I made)

2 cups macaroni
1/2 cup milk
1 egg beaten
1/4 tsp salt
1 cup pizza sauce
2 cups mozzarella
Pizza toppings

Cook roni and drain. blend milk, eggs and salt. Stir into roni. put in greased 9x13 pan. Pour pizza sauce over roni. Top with Cheese and whatever other toppings. Bake 30-35 mins at 375.

My Recipe:
3 cups roni
1/2 milk
1/2 cottage cheese (I am out of eggs - opps)
Pampered Chef Italian seasoning
Salt
Jar of spaghetti sauce
mozzarella Cheese
Pepperoni

Cook roni and drain. Blend milk, Cottage cheese, Italian seasoning and salt. Stir into roni. Put in greased 9x13 pan. Pour spaghetti sauce over roni(mix it up a bit). Top with Cheese and pepperoni. Bake 30-35 mins at 375.
YUMMY!

12 days (first happy meal)

It has been 12 days since I did a new post. 12 DAYS! That is crazy. Well I have a lot to blog about. Nothing super duper exciting. But here it is:

First Happy Meal - Yesterday was "park day" but since it was raining a few of us went to McDonald's for lunch. Now please note that I have not been in a McDonald's in years. But it has a play place. So I bought Little K her first happy meal and that is exactly what it was. She was so HAPPY! She LOVED the greasy chicken nuggets (I wasn't sure that she was going to like them). She ate all 3 (minus a few bites she shared with mom). It was super fun, but not something we will be eating often, no matter how much she loves them.

Family Museum: Again we went to the family museum and had a blast! I love that place and so does Little K. We went with a bunch of our friends and this time we played outside in the water. SO FUN!

Walking! Now that Little K has started walking, we can not get her to stop. She is exhausting. Everywhere we go, she wants to walk and touch EVERYTHING. It is so much fun, but sometimes I just want her to sit in the shopping cart and hold still.

First Birthday Bash... Little K is turning one in a couple of days and we are so excited that my mom and little sister are coming out to celebrate with us. I just have to get busy and clean my house now!

P.S. I added a picture to the blog below of the nasty visitor! check it out

YUCK!

Here is a good story for you... I hope that you enjoy

After putting little K in her bed, I went downstairs, parked on the couch and was enjoying the Olympic swimming finals. K was at a church meeting, I am just enjoying the moment.
SWOOSH! (ok it didn't really swoosh, I didn't hear it but I saw it and thought swoosh)
"AHHH! What the crap was that?!?!"
A BAT!
I quickly cover my head and hide under a blanket. I immediately feared it getting stuck in my hair. (not sure if that is a wives tail or not, but not willing to take a chance)
Now I have to decide if I continue to hide or climb out from under this blanket to see where it went.... I talk it out in my head... if I take this blanket off me, then I could get attacked by this flying night creature probably that has rabies and it would dive bomb me and get all tangled in my hair.... if I I don't peak, How long do I stay here. K should be home soon but how long can I stay under here??... and what about the Olympics?
I compromise. I peak just enough to see the large mirror and hope that I will see it through that. Well I slowly pull the blanket down and SWOOSH! It flies right over my head again.
My heart is pounding, my adrenalin is flowing, and my mind is running like a wild monkey.
Without getting out from under the blanket, I slowly slide onto the floor( my reasoning says it is safer there). I think I sat there a few more minutes as I mustered up the courage to peak again. It took only a couple seconds to see the nasty unwelcome guest flying around. I convince myself that getting away from it is the best plan. Very slowly, (trying not to draw attention to myself) I make my way to the TV to get the antenna to take to the other TV so I can watch the Olympics in the safety of my bed room. Then it is GONE! I dint see it anywhere. At first I was relieved.
Meanwhile, Little K is still crying (sleep training continues....)
As I walk up the stairs I realize that my plan is flawed. My bedroom door is open! And the bat is no where in sight. The panic starts up again. As shuffle down the hall, still wrapped from head to toe in a blanket, I enter little K's room as it has been the only room with the door closed through this whole ordeal. She is very pleased to see me as I bust through the door and slam it shut behind me. I rock her to sleep and try not to think about the grotesque monster that awaits me behind the door.
I start to worry that I was going to miss my favorite events though I couldn't ignore the fear of the bat in my hair. I was just getting cooled off from the big blanket so I very McGuiverishly (I made that word up), I wrapped my head in one of little K's receiving blanket. (Hey, I am still wearing it.... I am dorky)
By this point I was feeling pretty confident with my hair guard so I head back down stairs to get the phone (in case someone important calls....)
I am looking all over for the dang bat. Back up the stairs I see it in the window. It is in between the window and the screen. I don't want to loose it so that when K gets home he can get rid of it. I quickly close the window so it is TRAPPED! Yeah for me!
K walks in just as I am patting myself on the back. He looks up the stairs and is perplexed by the blanket so neatly and tightly wrapped around my head. I quickly explain the adventure I just had and show him the nocturnal vermin. We again return to our McGuiver days and create a plan that includes: A clorox mop box, half an old screen, one glove, a broken wire hanger and some duct tape! It took about 15 minutes of working and coaxing and agitating the bat to see that the plan was not working. He is mad as a trapped bat being poked by a hanger with a flashlight on his every move.

To make a long story short, he did not survive the extraction process (though we tried). My hair is fine and the bat is gone and now I can go to sleep.

Oh and we got it all taken care of in just enough time to watch the events I was waiting for!

Nauvoo

Thursday, K had the day off school so we went to Nauvoo. The Nauvoo Pageant is going on now and so there was a lot going on in Nauvoo. We had a great time. Little K had the most fun at a performance with lots of music. She danced and played in the grass for an hour. She wasn't big on the tours because she had to hold still. But overall she did really good. The pageant was amazing. Here are a couple pics from the day.

Olympics

I am super excited for the Olympics. I love to watch the worlds best athletes compete. I watched the opening ceremonies tonight and was very impressed. My mom, step dad and darling step sister are in China right now. I am crazy jealous! They have tickets to the Softball and Soccer, (I think). Swimming starts tomorrow and you can bet that I will be parked on my couch watching. My favorite events are swimming ( I was a big swimmer in HS) diving and gymnastics (men specifically)

80 on 8-8-08

Today is a very special day for my Grandpa. He is turning 80 years old today, on 08-08-08! Pretty cool huh? I was doing to research on the year that he was born and this year celebrates 80 years of sliced bread and Mickey mouse. I want to wish him a happy birthday and let him know how much I miss him. During the last 2 months of my senior year, I lived with my grandparents (because my mom moved to the valley and who wants to move so close to graduation). It was the greatest time living with them. My grandpa and I would eat cookies and watch Who wants to be a millionaire every Thursdays night. He was super fun to hang out with. All my friends thought is was weird to want to hang out with my grandparents but once they met him, they would want to come hang out too.
Happy Birthday Grandpa!

Family Museum

The other day, it was HOT and humid and I needed to get out of the house. Little K and I went to the Family Museum with our friends. It was so much fun. I may have had more fun than Little K. Check out these fun pictures. She had a great time at the cadaver. Like father, like Daughter. *She is 29" tall* My friend and I were having so much fun with the distortion camera!
